Atelier Cléophée
A Paris-based artist specializing in the art of pastel, Atelier Cléophée constructs her works as visionary compositions - preparatory sketches, as she imagines them, for stained glass windows or haute couture and interior design fabrics. Her work lies at the intersection of abstraction and figuration.
Through the use of paste - a fragile powder of pigments that barely clings to the paper, yet uniquely reveals the subtlest tonal nuances - Atelier Cléophée creates universes of shapes and colors rooted in the primal energy of matter. Her artistic approach seeks to question our relationship with the elements - both tangible and imaginary - and their scarcity in the era of the Anthropocene and ecological crisis. These elemental worlds lie at the heart of her chromatic and graphic exploration, infused with dreamlike qualities and rich color palettes. Pastel is conceived as a trace, an imprint.
Her range of pastels allows her to compose patterns, spaces, architectures of pure color, and overlays - each a unique attempt to capture light. Her work is infused with iconographies and visual impressions gathered during her travels - Italy holding a central place - and her academic background in art history, which has taken her from the Villa Medici in Rome to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, with stops at the Centre Pompidou and prestigious haute joaillerie houses.
The thousands of artworks and creations she has discovered over the years form an internalized archive - a collection from which she draws inspiration. She recently exhibited her work at Galerie Libre est l’Art (October/November 2022).
