Sayed Haider Raza

Centre Pompidou: Feb 15 – May 15, 2023

This is the first retrospective exhibition dedicated to Sayed Haider Raza (1922-2016), an Indian artist and founding member of the Progressive Artists Group created in Mumbai in 1947. This will be an opportunity to delve into the most prolific creative period of his life, when he lived and worked in Paris. During this period, he developed a formal and conceptual body of work impregnated with a palpable and visible transcultural dynamic. This exhibition will be taking place at the beginning of 2023, offering viewers a chronological look at his life’s work through milestones that enable us to grasp the complexity of the modern Indian project from the 1950s to the 1990s and the issues defining the globalized space of contemporary creation.

Germaine Richier

Centre Pompidou: Mar 1 - Jun 12, 2023

Centre Pompidou pays tribute to the sculptor Germaine Richier (1909-1952) - the first female artist exhibited at the National Museum of Modern Art (1956). This retrospective showcases her original style and demonstrates the degree to which she occupied a central position in the history of 20th century art, notably through her work in bronze and her revitalization of the figure by forging new depictions of men, women and nature in the post-war period.

Matisse. Cahiers d’art: the pivotal 1930’s

Musée de l’Orangerie: Mar 1 - May 29, 2023

This exhibition places some of Henri Matisse’s (1869-1954) rarely exhibited works under the spotlight. It brings together drawings, prints, photographs, engravings, archives, excerpts from films and various publications from this master of Fauvism’s collection.

Giovanni Bellini: Influences Croisées

Musée Jacquemart-André: Mar 3 - July 17, 2023

The 2023 exhibition in Paris dedicated to the Italian artist Giovanni Bellini will certainly be one of the best classical art shows of the year. It will plunge visitors into the Renaissance era with a deep dive into his work. On the bill: a magnificent selection of paintings by this great master who worked during the second half of the 15th century. Approximately fifty pieces will be gathered from public and private European collections. The pieces selected from this great master and father of the Venetian School’s work highlight his constantly evolving and original artistic style.

Neo-romantics

Musée Marmottan Monet: March 8 - June 18, 2023

This spring, the Musée Marmottan Monet will bring together nearly one hundred works that will allow the public to (re)discover one of the first post-modern movements based on the questioning of abstraction and the return to the figure. This movement started in Paris in the 1920s and spread to the American, English and Italian art scenes, creating links between Picasso, surrealism, 20th century figurative art and the living arts. A rare opportunity to admire pieces by Christian Bérard (1902-1949), Pavel Tchelitchew (1898-1957), Eugène (1899-1972), Léonide Berman (1898-1976) and Kristians Tonny (1907-1977).

Léon Monet

Musée du Luxembourg: March 15 - July 16, 2023

An unprecedented exhibition dedicated to Léon Monet (1836-1917), the brother of Claude Monet  (1840-1926), will open this spring at the Musée du Luxembourg. Despite being lesser known than his brother, Léon played a key role in his brother’s career. Léon Monet was a color chemist, industrialist and collector. This exhibition taking place in Paris brings together around one hundred works, among them paintings and drawings by his contemporaries, including: Claude Monet, Sisley, Pissarro and Renoir, as well as books of color, fabric swatches, Japanese prints, archive documents and much more.

Manet/Degas

Musée d’Orsay: March 18 – July 23, 2023

This Parisian exhibition brings together two great masters of painting. Key figures from the 1860s – 80s, Édouard Manet (1832-1883) and Edgar Degas (1834-1917) came from dissimilar backgrounds and diverged in terms of exhibitions and careers. This exhibition presents these striking contrasts, while showcasing the friendship that budded between the two artists. It also highlights unforeseen aspects of pictorial modernity and the post-impressionist period.
