Period Contemporary (1945-today)

The work is based on a bas-relief made with a plaster background on the canvas. The bas-relief is then treated with a spatula using natural substances (in this case cocoa) and then cleaned in the protuberances, restoring the three-dimensionality. It is then covered with a very thin layer of resin to eliminate air and avoid chromatic changes over time. Finally, the main parts of the work are coloured with oil colours.
The work is signed on the front and back and regularly archived.

With this collection of works, Andrea Benetti interprets the origins of abstractionism and symbolism, pictorial stylistic traits that were already born in the shadow of prehistoric caves.

Artist Biography

Born in 1964, Andrea Benetti created and wrote the "Manifesto of Neo-Rupestrian Art" presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale, in the "Nature and Dreams" pavilion, located at Ca' Foscari University. Conceptually, the Manifesto is inspired by the genesis of art.

In her works, Andrea Benetti quotes, transfigures, plays, reinvents the concepts and forms of rock painting, creating an ideal bridge between the genesis of art and its contemporaneity. He has collaborated and continues to collaborate on projects with various Italian and foreign universities, including John Hopkins University, the University of Bologna, Ferrara, Roma Tre, Lecce, Bergamo, Bari. These universities have carried out research on his art.

Benetti's works can be found in collections all over the world. In addition to museums of contemporary art in Italy and abroad and prestigious private collections, including the United Nations, his works can be found in the Quirinale (seat of the President of the Italian Republic), the Italian Parliament, the Vatican and various embassies. For this reason, he was received at the Quirinale (seat of the President of the Italian Republic), the Chamber of Deputies (Italian Parliament) and at the Vatican, where he met Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.

Dozens of university professors and important art critics wrote about Benetti's art and participated in the projects created by the Italian painter.
