Artist Biography

Born in the Czech Republic, she studied Visual Arts and began her thesis on femininity, Marcela Zemanova arrived in France in 2006 and continued her research at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. In 2012 she graduated Doctor of Arts. The study of the social and artistic context of femininity in the work of contemporary women artists will influence her future works.

During her studies Marcela discovered expressive painting and was drawn to touch and prints. Her path also crossed engraving and for a few years Marcela produced prints engraved on zinc or copper, with a focus on the face, eyes and coded texts written backwards.

In recent years Marcela has devoted herself to ink drawing. She likes its opacity, its intensity, its frankness. Directed by the chosen music, she draws the first lines of the movements with her eyes closed. After opening her eyes, she creates silhouettes. In search of the feminine, the emotion and the movement of the body, the artist is particularly sensitive to the conservation of the freedom of the gesture and the moment.
