Artist Biography

Pascal Maucourant is a French painter born April 1, 1956 in Cameroon (Africa).

His father, an agronomist, was sent to Cameroon to improve agriculture.

His mother was a teacher.

He learned from growing up in Africa a strong sense of smell, color and sound. The family moves back to France in 1975 (after high school) and Pascal is admitted to “Ecole des Beaux Arts” in Aix en Provence, home of the painter Cézanne, and last home of Picasso, at the foot of “Montagne Sainte-Victoire”. Pupil of the painter Johan Isselee, who teaches him new skills and a strong sense of perspective.

Takes a break for a few years and joins a bluegrass band “Banjo Express”, playing bass, on tours throughout France.

He then goes back to painting, with a strong Impressionist influence. Exhibits in Libreville (Africa), and Tubingen (Germany) for the inauguration of the Aix Center. Recipient of many awards, like the “Prix Marcel Arnaux” in Aix en Provence, the “Grand Prix” in Fuveau (Provence), the “Premier Prix” in Ventabren (Provence), and the “Premier Prix” in Chateauneuf les Martigues (Provence).

Pascal loves painting the light of Provence, the colorful markets, the alleys and fountains in the cities, and the vibrant colors of the countryside.
