Karel Appel was a leading figure of post-war European art and a founding member of the CoBrA movement. He is celebrated for iconic works such as Questioning Children and Animals, which embody his raw, spontaneous approach and childlike imagery. Het Zonnedier reflects this early, energetic period that made Appel one of the most influential artists of his generation.
