Jules Dedet, alias L'Atlas, is a French street artist born in 1978.

L'Atlas is a meticulous artist, in search of a certain purity both in form and in the choice of colors, and he expresses through his life and his art the Asian philosophy of duality as a source of complementarity. In his hypnotic works, there is always the dichotomy between black and white.

Refusing academic studies and a conformist life, he abandoned his art history studies to devote himself entirely to his writing. He travelled to Morocco and then to Egypt to study Arabic calligraphy from the greatest masters and teachers. At his return to Paris, he transposed the ancient Arab techniques into contemporary mediums such as scotch tape and spray paint for his paintings and posters. He creates a unique and universal signature inspired by the labyrinth, a recurring motif in his work.

These compasses and labyrinths made of gaffer tape (white scotch tape used on film sets) and applied on the ground are an invitation to reflection. In each of these works, one can always guess a word, more or less hidden, which is one of the inherent characteristics of the urban art to which he is associated. His artworks have been shown in many museums and institutions such as the George Pompidou Center, the Palais de Tokyo or the Grand Palais.
