Artist Biography

Léa M. was born in Le Mans in 1993, into a family where women occupy a discreet place, often downplayed in their words and deeds. Yet their role remains essential to the household's equilibrium, both in daily chores and in maintaining emotional stability. One of her grandmothers, passionate about music and painting, helped her discover that there was another way of expressing herself through art. Léa learned the basics of painting at the Pivaut school in Nantes, and then decided to take a theatrical training course to tame the emotions running through her body. It was only after this, in 2020, that she began her artistic production.

Léa M.'s work revolves around the female portrait. Believing that every woman carries within her a unique complexity shaped by her life story, she seeks to portray a free woman. A woman free to be who she is, with all her strengths and weaknesses. Through the “cutting” of her portraits, she symbolizes the different emotions that inhabit each woman. Some areas are more intense than others, some emotions easier to express than others. The place of the human being at the heart of nature, and nature itself, are also great sources of inspiration for her. Léa seeks to blend these women into a colorful landscape. The connection between nature and woman would be so intense that they would end up forming one and the same object.
