Trained as an engineer, Benoît Huerre worked in the automotive industry until 2001. He had been painting as a hobby since 1993. Disabled by a stroke, painting is now his full-time occupation. Benoît Huerre's paintings combine different techniques: oil, intense colour pigments, pastels. His favourite mediums are wood, first covered in canvas and then unfinished, and aluminium. His approach to glazing and his use of colour in successive layers, sanded and reworked, give his paintings their distinctive style, in which light is given real depths to abstractly bring to life a shape, or a group of shapes, that come alive with their own gestural quality. Appearing on the surface of the painting, they create a concentrated, multiple density that seeks to invite recognition of a space that, frozen in a work, carries and traces a reflection inspired by mathematics, astronomy and the sciences of matter.
