Artist Biography

Philippe Verspeek was born in Lille on September 06, 1969, in the Hauts-de-France region of France. He sees photography as a performative and tactile practice, and his work is a hybridization of traditional techniques and "archigraphism" graphics. The singularity of his images reflects the singularity of his cameras. It's a way for him to exist in his photographs. Many of his Archigraphic series are in black and white only, to give them a timeless quality. His artistic practice is inspired by minimalism and surrealism. He shoots with a micro 4/3 body and two kit or wide-angle lenses, focusing on the different materials used (glass, concrete, wood, aluminum). Some of his work is the result of experimentation with minimalist techniques, with graphics included in the development process, using various photo-processing software, all the while striving for the artistic side of the work. Although his cameras record in grayscale, he also produces color images. November 2021 - Galerie studio Photoxyde exhibition on architecture in the Avesnois region, as part of the Transphotographique festival in Lille. November 2021 - Conference and artistic demonstration, CFA Tourcoing, as part of the Transphotographiques festival in Lille. 2017 - CFA Tourcoing exhibition in collaboration with Photoxyde in Loos (northern France).
