Born in 1968, Chris Morin-Eitner takes photographs and produces short films. He holds an Architecture degree.
“Angkor, invaded today by vines, has a sublime poetry, with a distant human presence that one can still perceive... and tomorrow Dubai, Shanghai, New York, Rome, Paris ... what will become of these urban spaces, of these megacities, of these civilizations that are living their heyday, but are without doubt doomed to disappear, as the Mayas or the Red Khmers did?""
Chris Morin’s approach took birth during his trip at the ruins of Angkor in 2007. During this visit, he was impressed by the collapse of the capital of an empire and by its vast urban complex taken over by nature. With this rebirth of nature, the flowering plants invade and colonize the place, the animals are the only ones that seem to stay there, and the only sign of the existence of men is the presence of their decaying buildings.
Holding an architecture degree, passionate about urbanism, ""especially if the latter is left to the vines and monkeys"", Chris Morin creates his colorful, flowering and surreal universe by combining actual pictures of iconic buildings around the world and tags, animals, trees, and plants. From the most imposing architecture to the smallest grass tuft, each element of his works is photographed by the artist during his travels, building up an archive of tens of thousands images.
His work reflects the idea of human vanity, that of constructing buildings of monumental dimensions, tangible evidence of a man's domination over nature. Chris Morin overthrows this vanity by giving back to nature its whole strength.
