Artist Biography

Born in 1973, Fabien Delaube is a French painter whose work has reached beyond national borders, from France to China, via Belgium, Germany, and Canada. His work revolves around a central, almost obsessive motif: the mask. Not merely as an ornament, but as a key to understanding human identity—multifaceted, ever-changing, and sometimes hidden behind its own appearances.

His painting practice is based on a subtle alchemy of mixed media. Acrylic sets the initial pulse of the canvas, quickly enriched by oil interventions, patina effects, and textural elements. This layering creates a dense, vibrant pictorial surface where light sometimes seems to emerge from the deepest strata.

At the crossroads of Expressionism, Surrealism, and Symbolism, Fabien Delaube composes fragmented figures and shattered faces, like so many broken mirrors of the soul. His works explore the plurality of identities and the tensions between what is revealed and what is concealed, between strength and vulnerability. The colors, at times sharp, at times veiled, contribute to this constant tension, creating a space where emotion surfaces without ever fully revealing itself.

In this intimate yet universal exploration, the artist invites the viewer to lose themselves—or perhaps to find themselves—in the interstices of his compositions. Each work thus becomes a space for introspection, where mystery, memory, and transformation intertwine.

Recognized on the international contemporary art scene, Fabien Delaube pursues a unique artistic practice, both introspective and symbolic, in which humanity engages in a constant dialogue with its own mythologies.
