Rouge Intérieur is an original acrylic painting by French artist Éric Pelleau, created using a palette knife on canvas in a 60 × 50 cm vertical format.

This work offers a powerful and introspective vision of the human figure, where form, colour and gesture merge into a deeply emotional composition. The body, folded inward, suggests a state of retreat, protection, or inner reflection, inviting the viewer into a quiet yet intense psychological space.

Dominated by a vibrant and textured red background, the painting radiates a strong visual presence. This red field does not merely surround the figure — it actively interacts with it, creating tension, depth and emotional resonance. It becomes both environment and expression.

The figure itself emerges through contrasting tones of blue, green and soft highlights. A bold blue outline defines the contours, giving structure to the composition while reinforcing its contemporary and graphic character. The balance between control and spontaneity is central to the visual impact of the work.

Executed with a palette knife, the surface reveals rich textures and expressive gestures. The materiality of the paint remains visible, capturing the immediacy of the artist’s movement and lending the work a sense of vitality and presence.

Rather than pursuing realism, Éric Pelleau explores a more intuitive and expressive language, where the human figure becomes a vehicle for emotion rather than representation. The painting invites contemplation, allowing each viewer to project their own interpretation.

Rouge Intérieur stands as a striking contemporary piece, ideal for collectors of expressive figurative art and modern painting. Its strong chromatic presence and emotional depth make it a compelling addition to a curated interior, gallery space or private collection.

Artist Biography

Born in Brest in 1959, Éric Pelleau is a contemporary painter and sculptor who graduated from the École Boulle, École Supérieure d’Arts Appliqués in Paris. He has been painting and sculpting for over forty years and opened his first studio in Brest in 1983. His work today is part of a contemporary approach with a predominantly expressionist style, where figurative art gradually moves away from strict representation to give way to emotion, sensation, and the energy of gesture. Anchored in reality, his universe is evolving towards a more instinctive style of painting, in which color, texture, and movement become essential elements of visual language. In painting, he works mainly with oil and acrylic on canvas or wood panel. His subjects - bodies, characters, scenes from everyday life, nature, and seascapes - are approached with great formal freedom, between figuration and abstraction, in a constant search for emotional intensity and presence. At the same time, Éric Pelleau develops sculptural work in wood, stone, and clay, exploring the relationship between form, material, and volume. Sculpture is a natural extension of his pictorial approach, in an expressive and complementary manner, where gesture and material occupy a central place. Each work, whether painted or sculpted, is conceived as a sensory experience, an atmosphere to be felt rather than a narrative to be explained, leaving the viewer ample room for interpretation.Éric Pelleau holds a Diploma of Recognition for Artistic Merit, European Artistic Merit, and is registered with the Maison des Artistes in Paris.
