“Shell#6, 2019
Andrii Kyrychenko
Ceramic, chamotte mass, pottery, modeling, glazes, engobes, gold leaf, electric kiln fired at 1200 degrees.
This sculpture is part of a series of six works that Andrii Kyrychenko presented at the 10th South Korean International Ceramics Biennale 2019 (KICB 2019), held in the city of Incheon. Four of the six works were donated by the artist to the Korean Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF). All the sculptures are included in the event's exhibition catalog, and those still in Korea are exhibited in the “Contemporary ceramics from Ukraine” section.
Note from the artist:
“With this creation, I feel I have achieved harmony in composition and volume. My wish was to take the public on a journey. The object I've created appears to be decomposing, but it “sounds right” precisely because by studying its decomposition, we can find traces of its initial form. It's a form of material jazz. Ielizaveta Portnova paid particular attention to the coatings: the fifth and final firing of this object ended with the gilding of the counterform. Approximately 20 grams of gold leaf are found in the heart of this sculpture. In my opinion, this sculpture is the quintessence of the Shell series.”
Not suitable for outdoor display.
