Virginie Seigneul

Virginie Seigneul is a self-taught painter who lives in the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.

After years in the world of communication and writing a novel, she “met" painting the way you meet a distant cousin about whom you don't know much other than that we have a lot in common, lots to share.

From this meeting is born a series of portraits which tell a story in their own way, using a method of cutting shapes, a play of shadows and lights made of juxtaposed, overexposed, contrasting facets. Attention is paid to these forced, strong features, these rough edges which reveal the temperament, the identity of often fictional, sometimes known characters, who make up this new family. The gallery of portraits goes from color to black and white, from acrylic to oil, in the same approach, the same movement.
