Biography

Christian Raffin is a French artist born in 1957 in Isère, the French alps. When he was only a young teenager, he became passionate about art and more particularly for drawing thanks to one of his teachers in college. For sometime he put this passion aside in order to dedicate to his studies in engineering. Once he graduated, he installed himself in Tunisia from 1982 to 1984 where he practiced photography and tried painting, imbuing himself in the colors of the country. In 2004, he gave up his job in order to dedicate entirely to painting.

His artistic work is influenced by different artists, from Van Gogh and Dali to Nicolas de Stael. He paints with oil and acrylics, with a knife or a brush on a variety of supports such as paper, canvas, wood. He transcribes his memories of his daily life or from his journeys in a style that has the rigor of his original work, letting his emotions take the lead and guide his hands towards the essential.

For Christian Raffin, art is a way of unveiling himself and of exteriorizing his feelings. He loves playing on the subtlety of the contrasts between joyful colors and the sometimes melancholic messages, while retaining a bit of mystery and imagination thanks to the use of blur which gives his silhouttes an air of elegant ghosts.
