Biography

A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Dakar and, subsequently, an art teacher from 2007 to 2014, Masta has been painting since his teenage years and has had many group and solo exhibitions in Senegal and France.

He began exhibiting his work since high school through cultural and artistic events in the city where he grew up: Saint-Louis, Senegal.

Saint-Louis, a three hundred year old city, a city of museums, classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO, is also famous for its international jazz festival. The old postcards of the city are the source of inspiration for the monochrome series on a free drawing background that offers a poetic expression and shows the youngest what the city of their ancestors looked like. In this same series, we find the old streets of Paris or the city of Le Mans depicted under the features of a proud lady whose dress folds are constantly waltzed by a sepia color that still sings the splendor of a bygone beauty.

For an artist, Saint-Louis has more to offer than just its old colonial architecture, as the inspiring old city has mythological beliefs that have lulled Masta's childhood. Indeed, raised by his grandmother, the artist also traces through his painting stories told by characters and figures that populate the invisible world that still haunts his imagination. In the series of paintings where we find titles such as "Talisman", "Sacred Wood" "Magic Square" we underline the mystical dimension of the creative universe of the artist which is also illustrated through the other series entitled "Mystic city of Kumba Bang".
