Biography

Olivier Vassout was born in Mulhouse in Alsace in 1977. From an early age, he has been interested in drawing and modeling. His creations are nourished by numerous trips where he discovers the power of Nature. The United States first of all with the immensity of its national parks. But also, the meeting with the first peoples in the United States then in Canada. His work is still inspired today by the harmony with which these people live with the Earth.

Olivier chooses an art option in his baccalaureate. He is interested in mixed media, pencils, charcoal, acrylic, oil. He trains during summer courses with ceramists (Lauriane Firoben, Tessa Guilbaud...) but also with the Art School of Douai. He is particularly interested in low-temperature firings in pits or paper kilns. This allows him to connect with the four elements of earth, water, air and fire. By entrusting his sculptures to the magic of fire, Olivier seeks to immortalize the delicate palpitation of life.

He pushes the limits of movement to a fragile balance, a tension that arouses emotion. He lets his intuition guide his hands in the expression of our vulnerability. The evolution of his work follows the course of his travels. In Peru, he meets shamans. He is marked by their knowledge of the invisible and the subtle worlds. He also had the chance to visit pre-Columbian temples and to discover the richness of the primitive arts.

It is in Mongolia, in February 2020, in contact with shamans that Olivier discovers that his artistic creation must take another dimension. Upon his return, he decided to devote himself entirely to drawing, painting and sculpture with the need to share his art with the public.
