Biography

Alec Andon, best known on the name of Alec Monopoly is an artist from New York City.

Alec Monopoly is an American street artist known for having appropriated the mascot of the game Monopoly, Rich Uncle Pennybags or simply Mr. Monopoly, as main subject.

Living and working in Los Angeles, Monopoly subverts image and text to criticize capitalist hierarchies through the language of consumer culture, media and pop iconography, concerns he shares with the British Street artist Banksy .

Although his identity is not confirmed, it would seem that the artist was born in 1986 in New York of a family of painters. He appreciates the inherent democracy of graffiti and said "Painting on walls is more fun for me because everyone can enjoy it, not just collectors or art lovers."

Monopoly cites Salvador Dalí as a source of inspiration, as well as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
